The historic town of Alcala la Real is situated in the southern hills of the province of Jaen, a stones' throw from both the provinces of Granada and Cordoba.

It is ideally situated being only 45 minutes drive from Granada and Granada airport (with links to several U.K. airports), and 1 hour and 30 minutes from the beautiful Mediterranean coastline. The magnificent city of Cordoba is also within easy reach.
The population of Alcala La Real and surrounding villages is approx. 23,000 people.

The town is overlooked by a Moorish castle, La Mota', which was reclaimed by the Christians in the fourteenth century and has wonderful panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The town is serviced by a medical centre, bus station, museum, library, sports centre, swimming pool, 3 major supermarkets, many various types of other shops as well as the numerous bars and restaurants. There is a large market in the town every Tuesday. It has a very picturesque Plaza 'Paseo de los Alamos' in the middle of this old and historic town.

The surrounding area is mostly given to growing olives and cherries and is a haven for birds and other wildlife making this an ideal place for nature lovers and townies alike.
